Squaw Valley Ski resort is one of the most beloved in the Lake Tahoe area. The terrain is like no other, especially since Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows were combined. The resort carries an atmosphere of family and fun. Couples book this resort as a wedding venue and families vacation here year after year.
A quick Google search brings up memory after memory made at this location, including the 1960 winter Olympics and Warren Miller’s affectionate account of some of his first ski photography when the resort was brand new. President and CEO of Squaw Valley, Andy Wirth is determined to keep the spirit of the resort alive and to help the surrounding area grow economically. Wirth is an athlete and an inspiration to others, after a severe injury he suffered slowed him down only temporarily before turning into another way for him to give back. Wirth was involved in a skydiving accident that nearly cost him his arm.
On his journey to get better, he met a team of Navy SEALS and ended up befriending some of them. Along with one of these men and a friend from college, he formed a team for the Ironman triathlon. Their team is known as the Special Warfare Warrior Support Team.
The team raises money and then donates the funds to the Navy SEAL foundation. For more information on how the Navy SEAL foundation helps veterans and their families, click here: https://www.navysealfoundation.org/.
Andy Wirth has brought customer service back to Squaw Valley Ski resort and he is well-received among employees and customers alike. The friendly atmosphere has been maintained and he hopes to extend that to others as well, inviting more people in and working to develop more travel to and from the Tahoe area. Andy Wirth has served as Chairman of the Reno Tahoe Airport Authority Board of Trustees, Chairman of Reno-Tahoe Regional Air Service Corporation and was recently announced as chairman of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority Board.
He hopes to work with the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority Board to bring more flights into the area. The main goal is to bring more tourists in, effectually boosting the economy in the Tahoe region and providing more jobs to locals. Wirth remains active in his community even as a busy CEO, and looks for opportunities to give back to others.
